Ethical Matters: Ethical Eating

March 15 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free – £8
avocados

Food is an ethical issue. Join the discussion with author of Avocado AnxietyLouise Gray and Ruth Wescott, Campaign Coordinator for Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming.

Louise Gray answers a question about a familiar item in our shopping basket. Is plant protein as good as meat? Is foraged food more nutritious? Could bees be the answer to using fewer chemicals? How do we save genetic diversity in our apples? Are digital apps the key to reducing food waste? Is gardening good for mental health? And is the symbol of clean eating, the avocado, fuelling the climate crisis?

Ruth Wescott co-ordinates the Food for the Planet campaign, working to make food central to policies to tackle the climate and nature emergency, including good public sector food, responsible food advertising, and halting the spread of industrial meat farming.

Louise Gray is a freelance environmental journalist, having worked for the BBC, The GuardianThe Daily Telegraph The Sunday TimesCountry LifeThe Spectator and Scottish Field. Louise is the author of The Ethical Carnivore: My Year Killing to Eat, which discusses the ethics of eating meat whilst learning to stalk, shoot and fish. Her writing on nature, food and the environment is full of humour, while never shying from the hard facts. Her next book, Avocado Anxiety, is due to be published in February 2023.
